Generosity Fuels Innovative Care

Jack and Ellen DeutschAfter decades of successfully leading DEMA Engineering Company, a family-owned manufacturing business in St. Louis, Jack Deutsch has a deep understanding of how technology can improve processes. With the establishment of The Jack and Ellen Deutsch Endowment for Innovations in Medicine at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, he hopes to see advanced technology, including robotics, benefit more patients.

A visionary philanthropist, Jack researched and read various publications about the future of the medical field before he and Ellen decided to direct their gift to fuel innovations in medicine. Their endowment is focused on funding new, innovative, and advanced practices in medicine and patient care at Missouri Baptist. These innovations will be based on the continued study of advances in health care and hospital operational practices nationwide and around the world. The Jack and Ellen Deutsch Endowment for Innovations in Medicine will provide hospital leadership vital funds to investigate new technology as it’s available to ensure Missouri Baptist is at the leading edge of care.

“Robotics and other technology have come to the forefront of manufacturing so I see a tremendous opportunity for these in medicine,” Jack says. “In the future, we’ll see significant advancements in cutting-edge science and the use of artificial intelligence so the practice of medicine is going to change dramatically.”

Jack and Ellen have been connected to the St. Louis hospital community for decades, but Missouri Baptist holds a special place for them. They live near the hospital and have been cared for as patients at Missouri Baptist. In addition, Jack has served on various committees at the hospital.

“Our endowment is a way of giving back and thanking the hospital and staff for the good care and experiences we’ve had at Missouri Baptist,” Jack says. “And it’s an opportunity to move new technology forward more quickly.” John Antes, former president of Missouri Baptist, says, “The Jack and Ellen Deutsch Endowment for Innovations in Medicine better prepares the hospital for the future of medicine that includes new devices, less invasive surgical techniques, shorter hospital stays, and more ways to treat patients at home.” “We are extremely grateful for the Deutsch’s generosity and vision,” says Antes. “Jack and Ellen are truly champions of innovation."
